It’s been a while since the last post. I took a break form work today to kick back and let my ears recover from last night’s ear-throbbing Black Angels/Warlocks show at the Southgate House. The show was great, but I think the sound was way over-driven. I guess it’s probably not a good thing that I’ve been listening to their new album most of the afternoon at increased volume. Oh well.
The Black Angels - Mission District
The Warlocks - So Paranoid
The ever-prolific Robert Pollard also has a bunch of stuff in the works, including a new band called Boston Spaceships, due out in early September. This is not a new project of Bob’s where he is singing over music that Todd Tobias or someone else has recorded, this is Bob, Chris Slusarenko (GbV) and John Moen (the Decemberists) all recording together. The full-band tour in September will be augmented by Tommy Keene and Jason Narducy.
Boston Spaceships - Go for The Exit
Here are a few other things that have been kicking my ass lateley:
The Sword - How Heavy This Axe
Dead Child - Wasp Riot
The Bleachers - Build An Army
Sigur Ros - Sud i Eyrum

Today has been, by far, the most beautiful day of the year so far. Talk to anybody in this area and they are all likely to agree that winter overstayed its welcome this year. It’s been about 10 years or more since therre was snow on my birthday. Two weeks ago, we had a snowfall of blizzard proportions and it had me worried that this might be the year for it to happen again. Thankfully, it didn’t happen. Instead, I’m typing this from my brother’s back porch, in short sleeves, in the sun, waiting for the stuffed parmesan burgers to cook. My favorite time of year.
Baltic Fleet - 3 Dollar Dress
Retribution Gospel Choir - Somebody’s Someone
The Kills - Last Day of Magic
Sons & Daughters - This Gift
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - More News From Nowhere
The Photographic - Glass Saviour
Wussy - What’s His Name
Panda Riot - Like Flowers

Yeah, I know. I’ve been a slacker in the posting department lately. I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress this weekend and have been trying out some different themes. Not that there was anything wrong with the old one, I actually liked it’s simplicity and the rotating header images, but I accidentally deleted it instead of another one that I tried out. I can rebuild it fairly easily, but it’s been a while since I’ve looked to see what new options are out there. So, I’ve been searching around for another one. Haven’t come up with any yet, so I threw this old one up that I had laying around.
I’ve been digging tons of new tunage lately, especially the new one from The Kills - Midnight Boom. Visit their website, where they’re streaming several new tunes. Also, visit the WOXY SXSW 2008 page to hear their Lounge Act session. While you’re there, you also need to hear the SXSW Loung Act sets from Zykos, A Place To Bury Strangers, Film School and more.
Finally, Swervedriver are reunited and touring (!). I’ve seen most of the major shoegaze bands in the past, but Swervedriver always alluded me. So far, the closest they are coming to Cincinnati is Chicago on June 14, so you might see me at the Metro that night, unless they come closer.
Dig.
